Moving to Edinburgh? 10 tips

Are you thinking about moving to the U.K.? Or even better to Scotland? I did it, I moved to Edinburgh and I love it, so here are few tips about what you might need and how to feel home in few days.

1. NIN, the first thing you need to do when you move to the UK in general is to apply for the NIN  (national insurance number), with this code you're able to work in the United Kingdom and you can also use it as a proof of address. To get the NIN you will need to call the 0345 600 0643 and get an appointment for an interview (you can call just once you're in the UK). After the interview you will receive your NIN at home and is gonna be the same for ever.

2. GUMTREE, staying in a hostel or in a b&b is expensive and not the right choice if you want to move so you'll need to find an accommodation. Gumtree is a great source but you need to use it carefully. You can post an ad and be contacted by someone who has what you're looking for (this is what happened to me) or find the perfect flat or room between all the ads. Before paying or deciding for a flat go to see it in person, just to be sure, and sign a contract so that you're safe. Another thing to remember is that in the UK you will have to pay for a council tax every month which is quite expensive so find out how much is it and if with the rent you're still in your budget.

3. Bank Account, if you're looking for a job you'll need to open a bank account and if you don't already have a job it might be not the easiest thing but don't panic!I don't know about the non EU citizens but if you're european you won't need any permit to get into the UK. The bank that asks for less documents is Barclays, you need to book an appointment and once there just bring you're NIN, your passport and the contract of the rent for your flat, if you have it also a bill could help and in a hour you will have your account open for free.

4. Transport, we all know that going from euros to £ is a pain and when it comes to public transportations you will feel it.  In Edinburgh by bus or tram you can really go everywhere anytime so it worth the price (even if it's high). The single ticket is £1.50, the daily one £3.50 and the Ridacard that you can get in one of the lothian buses offices is £51 per month which you'll need to get just if you use the bus at least twice everyday!

5. Healthcare, sadly I had to experience it very soon but I'm glad about how it went. When you move somewhere certainly the first thing you think about is not "what if I'll be sick?" but you should! Check online the nearest GP doctor and register, now in any case you will have your family doctor, here public sanity works really well and it's called NHS, I've been to the hospital for a friend and again the service was excellent, so don't worry if you'll need a doctor here.

6. Do you speak scottish? Maybe you think your english is fluent and very good, okay well, here you will need to learn some scottish! The accent is very unique and thick so at the begging it could be hard to understand everyone and it's not because you don't know the language, don't worry you'll get used to it quickly. Just learn some new word, use a very strong R and you're good to go.

7. National dishes, I'm italian but weirdly I don't think italian cuisine is the best in the world, maybe one with the most variety but anyway I really like to try food from all over the world. Scotland is the only country, in the world, where Cocal-Cola is not the most sell soft-drink, here it's all about IRN-BRU, a orange soft drink that in my opinion is a mix of Chinotto and red bull produced in Glasgow. Then you should try the Haggis, just try I don't tell you what it is because you might decide not to then but you should is soooo tasty. For dessert the weirdest thing, deep-fried Mars barr, obviously is good because MARS barr is good and everything fried is good as well! All of it combine with a pint of Tennent's cheers!

8. PUB, going to the pub here is a must stop, you have to go to the pub this is how every night begins or ends, few pints and then you're ready for everything, after work or before a night out the pub is part of the way of living.

9. Studying, if you are looking for university, Edinburgh is a great choice with many different universities it offers a great choice. A beautiful young city where university level education is excellent. You can apply online most of the times in a very easy way and in any case there's always someone that will answer quickly to your e-mails to solve any doubt.

10. Why Edinburgh in the UK? I love this city, this has been the main reason why I decided to move here. Anyway Edinburgh could be the best choice also for you for many things, it's cheaper than London and here you can really meet local people! It's a young and vibrant place full of students, arts, festival, during the summer the city is just the center of all the arts. Outside the city the country is just breathtaking and wilde. People are nice and out going. The architecture is stunning you will feel like in a Harry Potter movie everyday. You will have fun!

Let me know if you liked this post or if I didn't answered some of your questions =)

SoundTru event Trussardi

Last night I got the chance to go to the SoundTru event organized by Trussardi, the fashion brand worked with Universal for this project and basically last night the band who won this music competition performed at the Trussardi's Caffé in Piazza Scala in the heart of Milan.
The location was half a bar and half a Trussardi's store, everything was cool, many people from the fashion industry and from the music business were there. The atmosphere was quite relaxed and rock, in fact the theme was glam rock.
Many guests were wearing leather leggings and faux fur gilet, a lot of fringes and also huge and comfy platform heels.
I went for an elegant rock outfit I would say, the party started at 9pm and it was a happy hour, then the band who won, PrettyVegasRock, performed for a while. Around 11pm the party was already finishing, but many many people were present, even too many for a not so big location.
Before leaving the staff gave each guest a bag with a t-shirt and a plectrum with Trussardi's logo, the music was the focus of the night, in fact this project has been loved and wanted by Gaia Trussardi which is not only a fashion business woman but also a huge music lover and it has been nice seeing this fusion between music and fashion.
Here a little gallery of the night and of my outfit.

Rum Brownies

Hello everyone! I love food, especially all the sweet things, so few days ago I decided to bake some delicious rum brownies, if you want to bake them too you're gonna need:
- 250 grams of dark chocolate
- 2 table spoon of dark powder chocolate
- 200 grams of butter
- Rum, as much as you want ;)
- 2 eggs
- 5 grams of baking powder
- 200 grams of flour
- 200 grams of sugar

Then you can start cooking!
First of all cut the chocolate and the butter and cook them using the double holier method, in the meantime stir the eggs and the sugar, then stir the chocolate and the butter till when they look velvety and yummy.

Next pour the chocolate and butter into the sugar and eggs, stir, then add the rum, the flour, the being powder and the powder chocolate, store very well, use all your strength!
Next pour everything in a buttery baking pan and put in the oven for 30 minutes at 180°, then while you're waiting all your house will start smelling of chocolate!
Then when the brownies are ready take them off the oven and wait for them to be cold before cutting them, and you're done!
They're so good, let me know if you bake them and if you like them!

Terme di Kyoto spa

Yesterday I spent a lovely sunday morning with my friend Valentina. We used her Smartbox and we went to the Terme di Kyoto at the top floor of the Enterprise Hotel, a 4-star superior design hotel in Milan.  We needed few hours of relax so we picked this option. As soon as we arrived we waited in the lobby of the hotel which was very nice and ethnic, everything was in the red, yellow and brown shades with a lot of design elements. After few minutes we went up where the little spa was, at the top floor. We've been given towel, flip flops and shower cream and shampoo in  a nice bag that we took away of course. The spa area wasn't very big but really cosy. There was a relax zone, a nice turkish bath room with blue led lights, a thermal pool, two different therapy showers and two relaxing areas on the balcony where the view was incredible, It was a sunny day so we saw the Duomo from the balcony, definitely a good point.
Of course we used and we did everything and we spent three lovely hours till I broke my big toe, but that's another story (lol -.-). Enjoy this little gallery =)

Bomaki, Uramaki in Milan

Looking for a great sushi in Milan? Bomaki is definitely more than that. I saw many pictures on Instagram of this place and as soon as I got the chance I went to see what this was all about. This place is awesome! It's not a traditional snobby sushi restaurant, is an uramakeria, uramaki are their thing! This place is a fusion of the japanese and the brazilian culture, in Milan there already was the Temakinho, but in my opinion Bomaki tastes better and the atmosphere is cool and relaxed. First of all you can decide to eat amazing sushi with amazing cocktails inspired by the colorful Brasil, I got a classic mojito and it was delicious, after that it was an uramaki madness. They have so many variations that there's the perfect sushi for everyone. Everything is well presented, the staff is very helpful and nice. Every table has a jar with thousands of chopsticks and also forks for the beginners, which I think is a nice touch as sometimes people can be "scared" by asking for knives and forks, in this way you can help yourself easily. I had the most amazing sushi and to be honest I was okay but I know myself and I just can't say no to a nice dessert so I went for the mango cheesecake which was incredibly light and beautiful. Speaking about uramaki my favorites have been: salmon crispy, giallo and astice gratinato.
Prices are fair, we are speaking about sushi and cocktail so it can't be cheap but it's reasonable, uramaki are between 8 and 15 euros (8 rolls) and cocktails 7 euros each.
Now I show you some pictures of this amazing dinner!

Edinburgh.

I think I took this photo at least 20 times and every time I come back to Edinburgh I go to Calton Hill and I think "I love this place so much". I went to Edinburgh for the first time two years ago and since then I always came back, for long or short periods. Everytime I arrive in this beautiful city my heart melts and every time I've to leave I feel that something is not right, that I need more time. This time I came here with a friend of mine who never came here before and she loved it too, of course ;) This place has something that makes it so charming to my eyes, I can't even explain, but if you've never been to Edinburgh book a flight and go.
I spent an amazing week, every time I come back I find something new, I go for a walk on the Arthur's Seat beginning from a new path, I go to Calton Hill at different time, I take a random bus just to go somewhere new and I enjoy my time there.
So here are some pics of my week in Edinburgh, I also post pics from three new places I found to eat, I love food =) haha, which are very cool and original and tasty and yummy at the same time: the first one is The Dogs in Hanover Street, which is a very cosy restaurant where i had a great duck with a sweet sauce, don't remember the ingredients tho, sorry! The second one is The Huxley on Princess Street where I had the best (and not expensive) lobster rool, soooo good, last new nice place I tried was Burger on Fountainbridge which is a  fast-food not too fast-food, if you know what I mean, great food in a modern but not snobby environment for great prices.
I hope you enjoy this little gallery
